Description

Adaptive Replacement Liner for the OPED VACOped

The OPED XELGO Replacement Liner for VACOped is a genuine adaptive replacement inlay for the VACOped XELGO Achilles walking boot. It may be used to replace a worn liner, kept as a spare during washing or installed as an upgrade in an original standard vacuum-style VACOped.

Each package includes one XELGO liner and one compatible hygiene sock. The VACOped boot, shell, soles, external straps, adjustment keys and other accessories are not included.

Compatible with Current and Original Standard VACOped Boots

The XELGO liner fits the current standard VACOped XELGO and may also replace the internal liner system in the original standard VACOped that used a terrycloth liner, separate vacuum cushion and hand pump.

When upgrading an original VACOped, remove both the old terrycloth liner and the complete vacuum cushion. The XELGO liner replaces both components, and the hand pump is no longer required.

Confirmed for Standard VACOped Only

This product page is for the standard VACOped shell. Do not order this liner for a VACOpedes, VACOcast, VACOped Diabetic or another OPED orthosis unless compatibility has first been confirmed by OPED or The Physio Store.

How XELGO Technology Works

The XELGO inlay contains adaptive beads combined with a highly viscous material. When the liner is fitted and pressure is applied, the beads settle around the contours of the foot, ankle and lower leg.

This creates a stable, pressure-distributing interface between the patient and the rigid VACOped shell without requiring air to be manually removed with a vacuum pump.

Adaptive Support Without Vacuum Pumping

The bead filling can be loosened, kneaded and redistributed around the sole and ankle areas. Once fitted, it conforms around individual anatomy and helps maintain supportive total contact inside the VACOped shell.

Breathable DryClim® Material

The inner surface of the liner uses breathable DryClim® material designed to help transfer humidity from inside the liner toward the outside.

Internal foam and ventilation channels also help improve airflow and limit heat build-up during extended wear. The included hygiene sock provides a comfortable layer between the skin and liner while helping manage perspiration.

What Is Included?

  • One OPED XELGO replacement liner
  • One compatible hygiene sock

Replacement Components Only

The VACOped orthosis, rigid shell, front cover, external straps, walking sole, Achilles wedge sole, adjustment keys and vacuum pump are not included with this replacement product.

Why Keep a Spare XELGO Liner?

A spare liner allows the VACOped user to continue treatment while the original liner is being washed and air dried. Rotating between two liners may also help maintain hygiene and comfort during an extended recovery period.

A second liner can be especially useful when the boot is worn throughout most of the day, when perspiration is significant or when more frequent cleaning is required.

One Hygiene Sock Is Included

Each standalone replacement liner comes with one compatible sock. Additional socks may be purchased separately for easier rotation between washing and daily VACOped use.

Upgrading an Original Vacuum VACOped

The standard VACOped shell and external components remain in use when converting an original vacuum-style boot to XELGO. Only the old internal liner components are removed.

  1. Open the external VACOped straps and remove the original terrycloth liner.
  2. Remove the complete vacuum-bead cushion from inside the terrycloth liner.
  3. Do not reinstall the terrycloth liner or vacuum cushion.
  4. Do not use the original hand pump with the XELGO liner.
  5. Put on the hygiene sock included with the replacement liner.
  6. Loosen and smooth the filling inside the XELGO liner.
  7. Place the foot fully into the back of the liner and secure its closures.
  8. Place the foot and liner into the existing VACOped shell.
  9. Reattach the front cover and secure the external VACOped straps.

Keep the Existing VACOped Hardware

The original standard VACOped shell, front cover, external straps, ankle adjustment mechanism and approved detachable soles remain in use after the XELGO conversion.

Selecting the Correct XELGO Liner Size

Choose the replacement liner according to the size of the existing VACOped shell. Do not select the replacement liner using shoe size alone.

The VACOped size is normally marked on the bottom of the detachable sole. The liner and boot size must match.

VACOped Boot SizeRequired Replacement LinerPackage Contents
SmallSmall XELGO linerOne Small liner and one compatible hygiene sock
MediumMedium XELGO linerOne Medium liner and one compatible hygiene sock
LargeLarge XELGO linerOne Large liner and one compatible hygiene sock

Liner and Boot Sizes Must Match

A Small liner must be used with a Small VACOped shell, a Medium liner with a Medium shell and a Large liner with a Large shell. Contact The Physio Store before opening the package if the boot size cannot be confirmed.

How to Apply the XELGO Liner

  1. Open the upper portion of the included sock and slide it over the foot and lower leg without twisting or bunching.
  2. Open the XELGO liner fully and loosen its closures.
  3. Gently knead the sole and ankle sections to loosen the adaptive filling.
  4. Smooth the filling to create an even layer.
  5. Place the heel completely into the back of the liner.
  6. Secure the liner around the foot, ankle and lower leg.
  7. Place the foot and liner into the rear VACOped shell.
  8. Confirm that the heel is positioned fully at the back of the shell.
  9. Attach the front cover and fasten the external straps securely and comfortably.

The XELGO filling may require a short period to settle around the patient’s anatomy. Recheck the liner and external strap tension after it has adapted.

Managing Pressure Areas

The bead filling may gradually shift with walking or extended wear. Periodically remove the liner and gently knead the sole and ankle areas to loosen the filling before smoothing it back into an even layer.

Check the Skin Regularly

Inspect the foot, ankle and lower leg for redness, bruising, pressure marks or skin breakdown. Stop weight bearing and contact the treating healthcare professional if excessive pain, numbness, altered sensation or persistent pressure develops.

Cleaning the XELGO Liner and Sock

The XELGO liner may be machine washed at up to 40°C. The adaptive bead cushion remains integrated within the liner and does not need to be removed before washing.

The included hygiene sock may be machine washed at up to 60°C. Follow the product care labels when laundering both components.

Air Dry Only

Allow both the XELGO liner and hygiene sock to air dry fully. Do not place either component in a tumble dryer or against a radiator, heater or other direct heat source.

Do not bleach, iron or dry clean the liner. Store the liner in a clean, dry location away from direct heat and sunlight.
