Fitterfirst PF2 Pro Fitter Ski Trainer and 3D Cross Trainer

The Fitterfirst PF2 Pro Fitter Ski Trainer combines lateral movement, adjustable resistance and independently moving footpads to create a challenging three-dimensional training experience.

Originally developed for ski conditioning, the Pro Fitter has grown into a versatile balance, fitness and rehabilitation tool. It can challenge lower-body strength, coordination, controlled weight transfer, core stability and cardiovascular endurance through more than 20 possible exercises.

Made in Canada Since 1985

The Pro Fitter is Fitterfirst’s flagship Canadian training system. Made in Canada, it has been used by athletes, rehabilitation professionals, fitness facilities and active individuals since 1985.

Its durable design is compact enough for home exercise while remaining suitable for gyms, sports-training facilities and rehabilitation clinics.

More Than a Ski Training Machine

The Pro Fitter reproduces the rhythm and side-to-side weight transfer associated with skiing. However, its applications extend beyond dry-land ski training.

Users can perform standing lower-body exercises, seated core exercises and hand-supported upper-body movements. Therefore, the PF2 can support general fitness, athletic conditioning and professionally directed rehabilitation programs.

How Does the Pro Fitter Work?

The user shifts from side to side while the central skate travels across a curved track. At the same time, the base rocks and the individual footpads flex and rotate. As a result, the ankles, knees, hips and trunk must continually adjust to control the movement.

The system uses two light resistance cords and two heavy resistance cords. Different cord combinations create six tension levels that can be changed according to the user’s body weight, experience and training goal.

Resistance is only one way to adjust the challenge. Speed, movement distance, stance and external support also affect the difficulty. Beginners can start with slow, short movements and stable hand support. More experienced users can gradually increase speed, travel distance and independent foot control.

What Is Included with the PF2 Pro Fitter?

  • Pro Fitter 3D Cross Trainer with a rocking base and curved lateral track
  • Independently flexing and rotating footpads
  • Attachable Soft Ankle Board for standing, seated and upper-body exercises
  • Two light and two heavy resistance cords that provide six tension levels
  • Laminated exercise guide with 20 functional exercises
  • Supporting information for general conditioning and rehabilitation

Current PF2 Package

The current re-released PF2 includes a laminated exercise guide but does not list an instructional DVD. Older product descriptions that mention a DVD refer to a previous package configuration.

Training and Rehabilitation Applications

Ski Conditioning and Rhythmic Weight Transfer

The Pro Fitter’s lateral movement helps recreate the rhythm, leg control and side-to-side weight transfer used during skiing. It can be incorporated into pre-season, in-season and general dry-land ski conditioning programs.

Balance, Coordination and Proprioception

The rocking platform and moving footpads require constant postural adjustments. This can challenge balance reactions, coordination, body awareness and controlled lower-extremity movement.

Hip, Knee and Ankle Control

Standing exercises can challenge the muscles that control the ankles, knees, hips and pelvis. Rehabilitation professionals may use the system to progress selected patients from supported weight shifting toward more dynamic balance and functional movement.

Core and Upper-Body Exercise

The Soft Ankle Board joins the two footpads into one padded platform. It can be used for seated core exercises, selected standing movements, plank variations and closed-chain upper-body exercises.

Athletic and Lateral-Movement Training

In addition to skiing, the PF2 can complement training for skating, tennis, golf and other activities that require lateral control, reaction skills, balance and coordinated weight transfer.

Need More Support or Clinical Progression Options?

Choose the Pro Fitter Physio Kit when the user needs freestanding Balance Aids or a firmer Hard Ankle Board. The PF2 is the better option for customers who want the core Pro Fitter system and Soft Ankle Board without the additional clinical accessories.

Understanding the Soft Ankle Board

The included Soft Ankle Board attaches across the independently moving footpads to form one padded platform. Joining the footpads creates a more unified base and opens the system to several different exercise positions.

Users can stand on the board for selected bilateral movements, sit on it for core exercises or place their hands on it for upper-body and closed-chain shoulder exercises. During upper-body rehabilitation, resistance should remain light and movement should stay slow, controlled and pain-free.

Research-Informed Exercise

University of Waterloo Biomechanics Study

A University of Waterloo laboratory study published in 2009 examined trunk and hip muscle activity, spinal loading and spinal stability during three Pro Fitter exercises.

Under the conditions tested, the researchers reported sufficient spinal stability with relatively low spinal compression and shear forces. However, the study involved only nine healthy young men and did not evaluate injury recovery or patient treatment outcomes.

Therefore, the research provides useful biomechanical information but should not be interpreted as proof that the Pro Fitter treats a specific injury or condition.

Safety and Maintenance

Use the Pro Fitter Safely

Place the Pro Fitter on a flat, clean and dry surface with adequate clear space around the equipment. New users and individuals with limited balance should use stable external support or direct supervision from a qualified professional.

Select a resistance-cord combination that matches the user’s size, ability and exercise. Begin with short, slow and controlled movements before increasing speed or distance.

Before each use, inspect the resistance cords, tracks, wheels and attachment points. Stop using the equipment if the cords expose internal rubber strands, the tracks become cracked or damaged, or the rollers no longer move smoothly.

Anyone recovering from an injury or surgery should receive clearance and exercise guidance from the appropriate healthcare professional.

No. Although its lateral movement is particularly useful for ski conditioning, the Pro Fitter can also be used for balance training, functional strength, core exercise, athletic conditioning and professionally directed rehabilitation.

How does the PF2 help with ski conditioning?

The side-to-side movement challenges the rhythm, lower-body control and lateral weight transfer used during skiing. Resistance, speed and movement distance can be adjusted for different conditioning levels.

How many resistance settings does the Pro Fitter have?

It provides six resistance levels. Two light cords and two heavy cords can be installed in different combinations to adjust the challenge.

How can the difficulty be changed?

Difficulty can be adjusted through the resistance-cord combination, speed, distance of travel, stance and amount of external support. Beginners should start with low resistance and short, controlled movements.

What is the Soft Ankle Board used for?

The Soft Ankle Board joins the two moving footpads into one padded platform. It can be used for selected standing exercises, seated core work, plank variations and hand-supported upper-body exercises.

Can beginners use the PF2 Pro Fitter?
