Fitterfirst Pro Fitter Physio Kit for Progressive 3D Rehabilitation
The Fitterfirst Pro Fitter Physio Kit is a professional balance, rehabilitation and functional training system. It challenges the user through controlled side-to-side movement while the rocking base, adjustable resistance and moving footpads create a three-dimensional training experience.
Clinicians can use the system to progress patients from supported movement to more independent balance, strength and coordination exercises. In addition, athletes can use it for lateral conditioning, reaction training and controlled weight transfer.
Proudly Built and Assembled in Canada
The Pro Fitter is Fitterfirst’s flagship Canadian rehabilitation and functional training system. It is built and assembled in Lethbridge, Alberta, by a Canadian company with more than 40 years of experience developing balance, rehabilitation and active-living equipment.
Choosing the Pro Fitter Physio Kit supports Canadian manufacturing while giving clinics, training facilities and active individuals access to replacement parts and product support from an established Canadian supplier.
More Than a Ski Training Machine
Although the Pro Fitter recreates the rhythm and weight transfer used in skiing, it can also support lower-extremity rehabilitation, core conditioning, closed-chain upper-body exercise and general balance training.
Fitterfirst first introduced the Pro Fitter in 1985. Since then, rehabilitation professionals, athletes, fitness facilities and active individuals have used its distinctive lateral movement for progressive functional exercise.
How the Pro Fitter Works
The user shifts weight from one side to the other while the central skate travels across the curved track. At the same time, the base rocks and the individual footpads can flex and rotate. As a result, the user must control the ankles, knees, hips and trunk rather than simply push against a fixed exercise machine.
Four resistance cords—two light and two heavy—combine to create six tension levels. Therefore, a clinician or trainer can adjust the challenge according to the user’s body weight, ability, movement quality and rehabilitation stage.
Speed and distance also affect difficulty. Short, slow and controlled movements provide an easier starting point. Conversely, faster movement and greater travel require more strength, balance, coordination and cardiovascular effort.
Clinical and Functional Training Applications
Lower-Extremity Rehabilitation
The Pro Fitter can be incorporated into clinician-directed programs for ankle, knee and hip strength, controlled weight transfer, proprioception and functional stability. It may also provide a progression from supported bilateral movement toward more demanding independent foot control.
Balance, Coordination and Reaction Training
The moving platform requires continuous postural adjustment. Consequently, it can challenge balance reactions, timing, body awareness and coordination in a way that differs from a stationary wobble board or balance pad.
Core and Upper-Body Exercise
With an ankle board attached, the moving platform can support seated core exercises, plank variations and closed-chain shoulder exercises. Resistance should remain light during upper-body rehabilitation, and movement should stay slow, controlled and pain-free.
Ski and Athletic Conditioning
The lateral motion helps reproduce the rhythm, lower-body control and side-to-side weight transfer used during skiing. It can also complement training for skating, tennis, golf and other activities that require lateral stability, reaction skills and coordinated movement.
What Is Included in the Pro Fitter Physio Kit?
- Pro Fitter 3D Cross Trainer with independently flexing and rotating footpads
- Soft Ankle Board for padded standing, seated, core and upper-body exercise
- Hard Ankle Board for a firmer and more stable progression surface
- Pair of 51-inch Balance Aids with freestanding bases
- Laminated exercise chart with functional upper-body, core and lower-body exercises
- Six adjustable resistance levels
Important Kit Update
The current re-released PFK2 kit includes a laminated exercise chart but does not list an instructional DVD. The previous DVD reference should be removed from the Physio Store product page.
Progress the User Through Different Support Levels
Balance Aids
The two 51-inch Balance Aids provide external support for users who are learning the movement or who have limited balance confidence. They can also help a clinician introduce smaller, more controlled weight shifts.
Hard Ankle Board
The Hard Ankle Board creates a firm single platform over the footpads. It removes the independent movement of each foot and provides a more stable base for introductory standing, seated or upper-body exercises.
Soft Ankle Board
The padded Soft Ankle Board also joins the two footpads into one platform. However, its cushioned surface makes it useful for seated core work, hand-supported exercises and selected standing activities.
Independent Footpads
Removing the ankle board allows each foot to stabilize more independently. This configuration creates a greater challenge for ankle control, lower-extremity coordination and dynamic balance.
Research-Informed Use
University of Waterloo Biomechanics Study
A 2009 University of Waterloo laboratory study examined trunk and hip muscle activity, spinal loading and spinal stability during three Pro Fitter exercises. Under the conditions tested, the researchers reported sufficient spinal stability with relatively low spinal compression and shear forces.
However, the study included only nine healthy young men and did not measure treatment outcomes in injured patients. Therefore, clinicians should view it as useful biomechanical information rather than proof that the product treats a particular condition.
ACL Rehabilitation Resource
A separate clinician-developed resource outlines possible ways to incorporate the Pro Fitter into progressive rehabilitation after ACL reconstruction. It includes passive, isometric, isotonic, balance and strengthening concepts. However, it is a historical clinical protocol rather than a randomized clinical trial.
Post-operative exercise must follow the surgeon’s precautions and the treating rehabilitation professional’s individualized protocol.

Safety and Maintenance
Professional Supervision May Be Required
Use the Pro Fitter only on a flat, clean and dry surface with adequate clear space. New users, individuals with impaired balance and rehabilitation patients may require the Balance Aids, a stable external support or direct supervision from a qualified professional.
Before each use, confirm that the resistance cords match the user’s weight and ability. In addition, inspect the cords, tracks, wheels and mounting points for wear. Stop using the machine if cords expose rubber strands, tracks crack or the rollers do not move smoothly.
Read the user manual before use. Children must remain supervised, and anyone recovering from an injury or surgery should receive clearance from the appropriate healthcare professional.
Made in Canada
The Pro Fitter is manufactured in Canada by Fitterfirst. The system has been developed for use in rehabilitation clinics, athletic facilities, fitness environments and home training programs.
