Description

NOI Graded Motor Imagery Pack

The NOI Graded Motor Imagery Pack is a clinical education and treatment resource bundle for clinicians, rehabilitation teams, educators, and patients using Graded Motor Imagery, often shortened to GMI.

This pack brings together three important NOI Group resources: The Graded Motor Imagery Handbook, the NOI Mirror Box, and one Recognise Flash Card set of your choice. Together, these tools support the three key stages of GMI: left/right discrimination, motor imagery, and mirror therapy.

Complete GMI Tool Kit

  • Includes The Graded Motor Imagery Handbook
  • Includes the NOI Mirror Box for mirror therapy
  • Includes your choice of one Recognise Flash Card set
  • Supports left/right discrimination, motor imagery, and mirror therapy
  • Designed for clinical use, education, and guided rehabilitation programs

What Is Included in the NOI Graded Motor Imagery Pack?

  • The Graded Motor Imagery Handbook by Lorimer Moseley, David Butler, and Tim Beames
  • NOI Mirror Box with perspex mirror for mirror therapy
  • One Recognise Flash Card set selected by the customer

NOI’s own GMI pack includes the handbook, mirror box, and one Recognise Flash Card set. The Recognise Flash Cards are used for laterality training, the Mirror Box is used for mirror therapy, and the handbook provides deeper clinical reasoning and guidance for applying GMI.

Select Your Recognise Flash Card Set

Choose the flash card body region that best fits your clinical focus or patient population.

ShoulderShoulder pain, upper limb rehabilitation, post-injury recovery and laterality training
KneeKnee pain, lower limb rehabilitation, osteoarthritis education and movement confidence

Good to Know

  • This bundle includes one Recognise Flash Card set, not every body-region set.
  • Select the flash card set that matches the body region you want to train.
  • Additional flash card sets can be purchased separately as your clinical needs grow.
  • For complex pain presentations, GMI should be used with appropriate clinical guidance.

What Is Graded Motor Imagery?

Graded Motor Imagery is a structured rehabilitation approach used in some persistent pain, complex pain, and altered body perception presentations. NOI describes GMI as a sequence of strategies that includes left/right discrimination, motor imagery, and mirror therapy.

The process is usually introduced in stages. First, the person practises recognising left and right body part images. Next, they may progress to imagined movements. Finally, mirror therapy may be used to create a visual movement experience while helping reduce threat and build confidence.

Stage 1: Left/Right Discrimination

The selected Recognise Flash Card set supports laterality training. The goal is to practise quickly and accurately identifying images as left or right.

This stage may be useful when a person’s body map, movement confidence, or ability to recognise body part orientation has changed due to pain, injury, immobilization, or neurological sensitivity.

Recognise Flash Cards

  • Used for left/right discrimination training
  • Can support assessment, practice, games, and home programming
  • Each set includes 48 image cards, with 24 images mirrored to create left and right images
  • Includes instructions, reference list, game suggestions, and card storage

Stage 2: Motor Imagery

Motor imagery involves mentally rehearsing movement without actually performing the movement. This can be helpful when movement is painful, threatening, or not yet appropriate.

The Graded Motor Imagery Handbook helps clinicians and patients understand how motor imagery fits within the broader GMI process. It combines neuroscience, clinical trials, and clinical reasoning to support better use of the full GMI toolkit.

Stage 3: Mirror Therapy

The NOI Mirror Box is used for mirror therapy. Mirror therapy may be considered in rehabilitation programs for conditions involving the hands or feet, including some complex pain, phantom limb pain, stroke-related presentations, focal dystonia, osteoarthritis, and CRPS when clinically appropriate.

NOI’s Mirror Box is designed to be portable, durable, easy to clean, and suitable for clinic or guided home use.

Clinical Use Reminder

  • Graded Motor Imagery is not a one-size-fits-all treatment.
  • Progression should be based on the person’s symptoms, tolerance, goals, and clinical presentation.
  • For CRPS, phantom limb pain, persistent pain, or complex neurological presentations, professional guidance is strongly recommended.
