Description

Chattanooga Primera® TENS / NMES Unit with HAN Waveform

The Chattanooga Primera® is a portable electrotherapy system combining advanced TENS pain relief and NMES muscle stimulation in one easy-to-use device. Designed for both clinical environments and supervised home programs, Primera offers a comprehensive range of programs to support pain management and muscle rehabilitation.

Advanced Pain Relief with TENS

Primera includes 8 TENS programs designed to provide temporary relief of pain through two primary mechanisms: the gate control theory and endorphin release.

TENS therapy works by sending small electrical pulses through the skin to stimulate sensory nerves. These pulses can help block pain signals from reaching the brain (gate control mechanism) and stimulate the release of endorphins, the body’s natural pain-relieving chemicals.

The HAN Waveform Explained

The HAN waveform (Han Acupuncture-like Nerve stimulation) alternates between low frequency (approximately 2 Hz) and high frequency (approximately 70 Hz) stimulation. This frequency modulation is designed to stimulate different opioid receptors in the body, potentially enhancing endorphin release compared to single-frequency stimulation.

Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES)

Primera also includes 6 NMES programs to support muscle rehabilitation. NMES delivers electrical impulses that cause muscle contraction, helping to re-educate muscles, reduce disuse atrophy, and improve functional recovery after injury or surgery.

  • Muscle re-education
  • Prevention of disuse atrophy
  • Maintaining or increasing range of motion
  • Increasing local circulation

How Primera Differs from Basic TENS Units

Unlike entry-level TENS-only devices, the Primera combines both TENS and NMES in one unit. It includes multiple preset programs and the unique HAN waveform, offering greater versatility for pain relief and muscle rehabilitation compared to single-mode consumer devices.

Compared to simpler TENS units, Primera provides:

  • Both TENS and NMES capability
  • 8 TENS and 6 NMES preset programs
  • HAN frequency modulation waveform
  • Clinical-grade durability
