Help Offset the Height of a Walking Boot

The OPED EVENup Shoe Lift fits over the regular shoe opposite a medical walking boot, post-operative shoe or CROW boot. Its adjustable design helps compensate for the temporary height difference created by elevated orthopaedic footwear.

Adult and Pediatric Sizes with Three Lift Heights

Choose from seven sizes based on the regular shoe being worn. Adult sizes provide 1/2″, 3/4″ or 1-1/4″ of lift, while pediatric sizes provide 8 mm, 13 mm or 25 mm. The universal design can be worn on either the left or right shoe.

Description

The OPED EVENup Shoe Lift for Walking Boots is worn over the regular shoe opposite an orthopaedic walking boot, post-operative shoe or CROW boot. It helps offset the temporary height difference created when one side is raised by medical footwear.

Instead of placing a loose insert inside the shoe, the lift attaches around the outside of a closed-toe shoe. Removable layers allow the height to be adjusted according to the walking boot and footwear being used.

Designed for the Shoe Opposite Your Walking Boot

Wear the shoe lift on the regular shoe—not on the walking boot. Raising the opposite side can help create a more level standing and walking position while you recover. The appropriate height may vary according to the walking boot, shoe and recommendations of your healthcare professional.

Why Use a Shoe Lift with a Walking Boot?

Medical walking boots are often thicker and taller than everyday footwear. As a result, the booted side may sit higher than the side wearing a regular shoe.

The EVENup adds height beneath the regular shoe to help reduce this temporary difference. It can be used with many fracture boots, pneumatic walking boots, post-operative shoes and other elevated orthopaedic footwear.

Key Features

  • Three adjustable heights: Removable lift layers help accommodate different walking boot and shoe combinations.
  • Seven available sizes: Includes four adult sizes and three pediatric sizes.
  • Universal left or right design: The same product can be worn on either shoe.
  • External shoe attachment: Fits around the outside of the regular shoe without taking up space inside it.
  • Secure strap system: Elastic sections and an adjustable fastening strap help hold the lift around the shoe.
  • Reusable: Can be transferred between suitably sized shoes during recovery.
  • Designed for temporary height differences: Commonly used opposite a medical walking boot, post-operative shoe or CROW boot.

The Original EVENup Design

EVENup was developed by podiatrists after hearing concerns from patients walking with one elevated fracture boot. The original adjustable design is now part of the OPED Medical product range and is available in adult and pediatric sizes.

Choose the Size Based on Your Regular Shoe

Select the size according to the athletic or walking shoe that will be worn opposite the medical boot. Do not choose the size based on the walking boot itself.

Important Sizing Tips

  • The shoe lift fits best over a regular-profile athletic or walking shoe.
  • Avoid choosing the size according to the walking boot.
  • If you are between sizes, OPED generally recommends choosing the smaller size.
  • If the shoe is wide and falls near the upper end of a size, moving up one size may provide a better fit.
  • For shoes with a wide or thick outsole, measure the complete outsole and compare it with the lift lengths in the chart.
  • Avoid sandals, open-back shoes, high heels and footwear that cannot be secured safely inside the straps.

Adjustable Lift Heights

Adult Sizes

Small, Medium, Large and X-Large provide three lift options:

  • 1/2″
  • 3/4″
  • 1-1/4″

Pediatric Sizes

XXX-Small, XX-Small and X-Small provide three lift options:

  • 8 mm
  • 13 mm
  • 25 mm

Begin with the height recommended by your healthcare professional. The objective is to help offset the height of the medical boot without making the regular-shoe side noticeably higher.

How to Apply the Shoe Lift

  1. Sit down before installing or removing the product.
  2. Place the regular shoe over the opposite knee where it can be reached safely.
  3. Position the front section around the toe of the shoe.
  4. Pull the elastic sections along each side of the outsole and toward the heel.
  5. Pull the rear tab securely over the heel of the shoe.
  6. Ensure the EVENup name at the rear is facing outward.
  7. Pass the fastening strap through its loop and secure it around the wider band.
  8. Check that the shoe is centred and securely contained before standing.

Recheck the positioning and straps regularly, especially after changing shoes or removing a lift layer.

Suitable Uses

The shoe lift may be used to help offset a temporary height difference created by:

  • Medical walking boots and fracture boots
  • Pneumatic walking boots
  • Post-operative shoes
  • CROW boots
  • Other elevated orthopaedic footwear when recommended by a healthcare professional

Use with Care

Improper sizing, installation or use may create a trip or fall risk. Confirm that the lift is securely attached before walking and use additional care on stairs, curbs, wet surfaces and uneven ground.

This product is primarily intended for temporary height differences. A permanent or unexplained leg-length difference should be assessed by an appropriate healthcare professional.

  1. The item itself is a gamechanger to maintain better hip-knee-ankle alignment while I was in the vacoped boot after Achilles surgery.

In an 8.5W shoe, I really wish I got the medium instead of the small. The small doesn’t cover the full sole of my shoe so the strap around the toe box is strained and puts pressure on my toes.

One adjustable shoe lift is included. Only one is normally required because it is worn on the side opposite the medical walking boot.

How do I choose the correct size?

Choose the size according to the regular shoe that will be worn inside the lift. Do not use the walking boot size. Compare your shoe size and complete outsole length with the size chart.

Should I size up or down when I am between sizes?

OPED generally recommends choosing the smaller size when between sizes. However, someone wearing a wide shoe near the upper end of a size may need to move up one size.

Does it fit wide shoes?

It may fit some wide athletic shoes, but outsole dimensions are more useful than the labelled shoe size. Measure the complete outsole and compare it with the length shown in the size chart. A wide shoe near the upper limit may require the next size.

What kind of shoe works best?

A regular-profile, closed-toe athletic or walking shoe generally works best. Avoid high heels, sandals, open-back shoes and footwear with unusually thick or bulky outsoles that cannot be secured safely.

How much height does the adult version provide?

Small, Medium, Large and X-Large provide three adjustment options: 1/2 inch, 3/4 inch and 1-1/4 inches.

How much height does the pediatric version provide?

XXX-Small, XX-Small and X-Small provide three adjustment options: 8 mm, 13 mm and 25 mm.

How do I know which lift height to use?

Choose the height that most closely offsets the walking boot without making the regular-shoe side noticeably higher. Follow the instructions of your physiotherapist, surgeon or other healthcare professional when a specific height has been recommended.

Can children use the EVENup Shoe Lift?

Yes. Three pediatric sizes are available: XXX-Small for toddler shoe sizes 9–12, XX-Small for child sizes 13–2 and X-Small for kid sizes 3–5.

Can it be used with any walking boot brand?

It can be used opposite many walking boot brands because it attaches to the regular shoe rather than the boot. The required lift height depends on the height of the walking boot and the shoe being worn.

Can it be used with a post-operative shoe?

Yes. It may be worn on the opposite regular shoe to help offset the height created by a post-operative shoe, provided the sizing and height adjustment are appropriate.

Can it be used with a CROW boot?

OPED lists CROW boots as a compatible application. Because CROW boots are individually fitted medical devices, the appropriate lift height should be confirmed with the treating healthcare professional.

Can I use it for a permanent leg-length difference?

The product is primarily designed to compensate for temporary height differences, such as those created by walking boots. A permanent or unexplained leg-length difference should be assessed by a qualified healthcare professional.

How do I attach it to my shoe?

Apply it while seated. Position the front section over the toe, pull the side sections along the outsole, secure the rear around the heel and fasten the adjustable strap. Confirm that the shoe is centred and secure before standing.

Can I use it on stairs?

Extra care is required on stairs, curbs and uneven surfaces. Hold a railing where available and follow any mobility or weight-bearing instructions provided by your healthcare professional.

Can I drive while wearing it?

Do not drive unless your physician has cleared you to drive and you can operate the vehicle safely. Walking boots, shoe lifts and lower-limb injuries can interfere with pedal control and reaction time.

What is the warranty?

The OPED EVENup Shoe Lift includes a 30-day limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal intended use.
