Thumb Sprain

A thumb sprain occurs when the ligaments supporting the thumb joint are stretched or torn. This commonly happens from falls, sports injuries, or forceful thumb bending. One well-known example is “skier’s thumb,” which involves injury to the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL).

Symptoms may include swelling, bruising, weakness when pinching or gripping, and pain at the base of the thumb. Supportive thumb braces may help limit movement and provide stability during recovery.
