Slim, Adjustable and Comfortable Inside a Shoe

VACO12 bead-filled cushions conform around the ankle bones, while the elastic strap system and adjustable Talusstrap let support and compression be tailored to the user. Its slim, lace-free design fits inside most supportive closed shoes.

Description

Stable Ankle Support Without a Bulky Lace-Up Brace

The OPED VACOtalus Ankle Brace combines the stability of an anatomically shaped outer shell with the comfort and adjustability of a wrap-style ankle support. It is designed to help stabilize the ankle following ligament injuries, ankle sprains and recurring ankle instability while preserving the movement required for everyday walking.

Support That Controls Unwanted Ankle Movement

The anatomically moulded outer shell helps limit inversion, eversion and rotational movement—the motions commonly involved when an ankle rolls inward or outward. At the same time, plantarflexion and dorsiflexion remain possible, helping the foot move more naturally through the walking cycle.

Unlike a basic elastic ankle sleeve, the VACOtalus provides structured lateral support around the ankle. Unlike many traditional rigid braces, its slim profile can be worn inside suitable closed footwear.

Adjustable Talus Control

The integrated Talusstrap crosses the top and rear of the foot to help limit unwanted forward movement of the talus within the ankle joint. Its position can be adjusted to provide different levels of stabilization according to the user’s condition, swelling and treatment needs.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Anatomically moulded outer shell: Provides structured lateral and rotational ankle stability.
  • Adjustable Talusstrap: Helps control forward movement of the talus and can be repositioned as support requirements change.
  • VACO12 cushions: Bead-filled inserts conform around the ankle bones for cushioning, fit and comfort.
  • Three-strap design: Holds the ankle securely without requiring traditional laces.
  • Adjustable compression: Elastic straps allow the fit to be adapted as swelling and comfort needs change.
  • Preserves functional movement: Allows up-and-down ankle movement to support a more natural walking pattern.
  • Slim profile: Designed to fit inside many supportive closed shoes and beneath everyday clothing.
  • Side-specific construction: Available in separate left-foot and right-foot models for a more anatomical fit.

Common Uses

The OPED VACOtalus may be recommended for acute ankle ligament injuries, ankle sprains, recurring ankle instability, prevention of repeat ligament injuries and follow-up care after certain fractures around the ankle.

Use the brace according to the instructions of your doctor, physiotherapist or other qualified healthcare professional. It is not intended to stabilize an unstable fracture.

VACO12 Cushioning Around the Ankle

The integrated VACO12 cushions contain small beads that adapt around the ankle bones. This helps create a close, comfortable fit while reducing concentrated pressure around sensitive areas of the ankle.

The cushions do not require inflation, pumping or vacuum adjustment. Support is controlled through the anatomical shell, elastic straps and adjustable Talusstrap.

Designed for Everyday Wear

The VACOtalus should be worn over a sock and inside a supportive closed shoe. Its low-profile design makes it less bulky than many traditional rigid ankle braces, while the lace-free strap system makes it easier to put on and adjust.

Choose the model made specifically for the injured ankle. Left and right versions are not interchangeable.

How to Apply the VACOtalus

  1. Put on a thin, smooth sock and open all fastening straps.
  2. Position the brace around the back of the foot with the shell correctly aligned around the ankle.
  3. Fasten the short upper diagonal strap.
  4. Guide the long elastic strap across the top of the foot and around the lower leg, then secure it comfortably.
  5. Fasten the Talusstrap across the foot as instructed by your healthcare provider.
  6. Place the foot inside a supportive closed shoe and check that the brace feels secure without excessive pressure.

A healthcare professional should demonstrate the initial fitting and advise you before changing the Talusstrap position. Do not overtighten the brace. Loosen the straps if you experience excessive pressure.

What is the OPED VACOtalus Ankle Brace used for?

The VACOtalus is designed to stabilize the ankle following sprains and acute ligament injuries. It may also be recommended for ongoing ankle instability, prevention of repeat ligament injuries and follow-up care after certain ankle fractures. Always follow the advice of your healthcare professional.

How does the VACOtalus stabilize the ankle?

Its anatomically shaped outer shell helps limit side-to-side rolling and twisting movements. Adjustable straps secure the brace around the ankle, while the Talusstrap helps control unwanted forward movement of the talus within the ankle joint.

What are the VACO12 cushions?

The VACO12 cushions are bead-filled pads positioned around the ankle bones. They adapt to the contours of your ankle to improve comfort, cushioning and fit without requiring an air pump.

Does the VACOtalus allow normal ankle movement while walking?

The brace limits inversion and eversion, which are the movements commonly involved when an ankle rolls inward or outward. Up-and-down ankle movement remains possible, helping support a more natural walking pattern.

Is the VACOtalus more supportive than a soft ankle sleeve?

Yes. A soft sleeve mainly provides compression and light support, while the VACOtalus combines a rigid anatomical shell, supportive straps and contoured ankle cushioning. It is intended for people who need greater control of unwanted ankle movement.

Will the VACOtalus fit inside a shoe?

The VACOtalus has a slim, low-profile design that fits inside many everyday shoes. A supportive shoe with adjustable laces or a roomy opening will generally accommodate the brace more easily than a tight or narrow shoe.

Do I need to choose a left or right ankle brace?

Yes. The VACOtalus is anatomically shaped and is available in separate left-foot and right-foot versions. Select the side that corresponds with the ankle requiring support.

How do I choose the correct VACOtalus size?

Choose the size according to your regular shoe size. Small generally fits men’s shoe sizes up to approximately 7.5 and women’s sizes up to approximately 8.5. Standard generally fits larger shoe sizes. Contact The Physio Store before ordering when you are uncertain about sizing.

What should I do when I am between sizes?

OPED generally recommends choosing the smaller size when you fall between sizes, although individual ankle shape, swelling and calf size can affect the fit. Contact our team before ordering when additional sizing guidance is needed.

How tight should the VACOtalus feel?

The brace should feel secure and supportive without causing excessive pressure, numbness, tingling or increased pain. Begin with the straps comfortably snug and adjust them gradually. Loosen the straps and contact your healthcare provider if you experience circulation changes or unusual discomfort.

Can the VACOtalus accommodate ankle swelling?

The adjustable straps allow the fit and compression to be modified as swelling changes. The VACO12 cushions also conform around the ankle. Significant or increasing swelling should be assessed by a healthcare professional.

Can I wear the VACOtalus during sports or exercise?

The brace may be used for preventative support or during a gradual return to activity when recommended by a healthcare professional. It should not be used as permission to return to sports before the injured ankle has recovered sufficiently.

How long should I wear the ankle brace each day?

Wearing time depends on your injury, recovery stage and treatment plan. Follow the instructions provided by your doctor, physiotherapist or other healthcare professional rather than automatically wearing the brace continuously.

Should the VACOtalus be worn over a sock?

A thin, smooth sock can improve comfort, help manage moisture and reduce rubbing inside the brace. Avoid thick or wrinkled socks that may create pressure points or make the brace too tight inside your shoe.

How do I clean the VACOtalus Ankle Brace?

Hand wash the washable components in lukewarm water using a mild detergent. Allow all parts to air dry completely before use. Do not tumble dry or expose the brace to direct heat.

Is the VACOtalus made with natural rubber latex?

No. According to OPED’s user instructions, the VACOtalus is not made from natural rubber latex.

Who should not use the VACOtalus?

The brace should not be used over open wounds or for an unstable fracture. It should be fitted and explained by trained personnel, particularly following a new injury, fracture or surgery.

When should I stop wearing the brace and seek medical advice?

Contact your healthcare provider promptly if the brace causes excessive pain, worsening swelling, numbness, changes in sensation, skin irritation or another unusual reaction. These symptoms may indicate that the fit or treatment plan needs to be reassessed.
